Half Way There
...to Anchorage that is. Our journey started at 330am EDT this morning. Dave and I caught a ride to IAD from my Gran and Aunt Milly. We checked our luggage when the airport opened at 5am. It was a little sketchy because; my backpack never went behind the counter. It was left in a pile for "oversize luggage" out on the floor. I didn't think much of this at the time, but it has come back to bit me in the behind.
Our flight left around 7am EDT from IAD to LAX. It wasn't a bad flight. Our first movie was Hidalgo. I wanted to see this movie way back, but I forgot about it. Vigo whats his name did a good job, and it was entertaining. The next flick was shown courtsey of a bad flight attendant. It wasn't suppose to be shown until July 16. Naughty Naughty girl. It was 50 First Dates! I'll tell you what, I throughly enjoyed the movie. It was smart and funny. Drew Berrymore was so cute! After the second movie, we landed at LAX.
LA huh? Something tells me I wouldn't like this town. Dave doesn't like this town. I don't think it would be my scene, but I was there. I had the itch to look around. There had to be some slamming parties somewhere the friday of Fourth of July weekend, right? Oh well, we had to catch a Air Canada flight to Vancouver in only an hour.
Ill update ya'all now. Our flight schedule today is so wack. I am sitting right now in a Maple Leaf Club Air Canada in Vancouver waiting for a flight to Seattle. Ok, back to the explanation. Dave and I purchased two round trip tickets for this trip. DC > Vancouver and Vancouver > Anchorage - That was the cheapest way to go. Today is the air travel day from hell. IAD > LAX > YVR > SEA > ANC. That's right kids, up and down FOUR TIMES and through security three times in one day for a total of TWENTY FOUR HOURS travel time. Such fun it has been. I really can't complain to much. We are doing half way well so far. The only catch is that the Star Alliance lost my backpack somewhere between IAD and YVR. They don't really know where it is. Ugh. They know Dave's bag is a flight behind us coming from LAX. I hope they find mine, and get it to Anchorage sometime tomorrow. That would put a big damper on the whole trip.
Ok, so enough complaining. It has been a great time so far! Dave has hooked us up with these travelers clubs in IAD and YVR. I am drinking free beer and using free internet right now. By the way, the YVR airport is sweet. Lots of cool regional mountian type flare. Plus, its pretty quite, and the staff has been really kind. I am looking forward to Anchorage. We get to do some town sight seeing tomorrow, Fourth of July on Sunday, and Camping out in Denali next week. We have to pack bear repellent and shotguns. Crazy right? Should be good times.
Well, wish dave an I good luck. It has been a outlandish adventure so far, and we haven't even made it to our first destination! Its 4:32 Pacific Daylight Time (19:32 EDT). I have been awake for over 12 hours. I still have a few to go, and one more time zone to jump into. Hopefully, we get back out luggage back within 24 hours. That would be nice. We shall see. Oh well, heres to a great trip and a good time.
btw... team blogging over at dave's site.

Mr. Red Teletubbie It has come to my attention that serious libelous accusations with disregard to our previous peace-treaties. No matter how many times you've tried to physically attack me over the years, I always laughed while you repeatedly punched my enormous head. But now I will strike back. Do not be surprised to find your belongings in a distant wharf. PS Jason Flynn is a geek
High, you're funny. I did wrongly acuse you of a heinous crime. You have to admit, you were the culprit in past shoe capers.
High.....you my friend are the geek. hahaha Simeon - glad to hear that you are enjoying yourself on the trip, I hope they find your luggage. Denby and I couldn't believe it when we heard your voicemail from like 5:00am EST, saying that it was 2:00am your time and that it was still full daylight.....awesome!
Mr. Fat Head...Don't ever use the word Wharf again!! And thank you for taking Mr. Willbanks off my trail for some time...I'm also very impressed by your use of the word libelous...Some men are uncomfortable with the very mention of the word..."libelous"...We should conspire in future camper capers....
Salut
