Starscape 2004

Saturday, I prepared all day for the party by sleeping. Well, I woke up around noon, but I stayed on the couch most of the afternoon. I left the house around 6pm to get some food, but that was it. For those of you that don't know, Starscape is held annually at Fort Armistead Park outside Baltimore. The party runs from 9pm till 6am so, it is pretty long.

I drove up to bmore around 830 to met Adam and a few other's at his place. I got there, and Adam was the only one hanging out. He decided to walk with me over to Eastern to pick up my ticket. Aaron had my free ticket. It was actually Pete's, but he was in Florida. Thanks Pete!!! We chilled with Aaron for awhile. We were introduced to his brother Jessie and his girlfriend. They were from Philly, and we talked about the City of Brotherly Love. The encounter was cut short because; Adam was expecting people back at his place.

We walked back over to met Scott, Joanne, and a few of Adam's friends. We decided to leave right away. We wanted to be inside the party before 11pm. The drive was not that bad out of the city to the Bmore Beltway. The exit was exit 1, and we saw a line for cars. We parked near the end and had to walk a few miles. Maybe that was a good thing. Maybe that was bad. There was parking way upfront, but we did not stay the whole time.

Waiting in line to get in was no trouble. It took about 15 minutes. Even in the line, we could hear the music. I was getting pumped even though I was kinda apprehensive. I wore shorts anticipating rain, but I was starting to feel cold.

At first glance, the party was arranged the same as last year. The main tent was to the right of the entrance and vendors to the left. The art gallery was directly infront of you. Once you made it to the gallery, you could turn right to pass more vendors on your way to the drum 'n bass area that had no tent. You could walk down to the water there or back by the gallery. Down on the water was a Sonar area, hip-hop, top-40, and vendors.

>From the beginning, the Sonar area was my favorite. It looked like they took out their DJ booth and rebuilt it here. Chris Bulla and Ed Ridgley. They spun some really funky disco house. It was so awesome out there by the water with the bridge in the background. Although, I was so cold.

I also spent some time in the gallery. I was suprised to see Pete's piece was his bathroom. I was told later why. Appearently, that piece has inspired most of his work. I do like it, I thought he would enter one of his larger pieces. Don't ask me why. I also really like Aaron's digital prints. Crazy photo manipulation. His brother entered some sweet digital designs. I enjoyed them all.

I spent awhile looking at some of the vendors. This one group hand stenciled t-shirts. Each one was a tiny bit unique. I really wanted to purchase, "We Make Bad Decisions," but they were sold out of mediums. No Fun. I did grab a banana-strawberry smoothy around 230am. It was so tasty.

I can't forget our trip into the main tent. The highlight for me was Bad Boy Bill. His high energy house would make anyone want to dance. It is crazy how fast he can mix records. Alas, I was tired. I guess the whole day of sitting around rubbed off on the night. We didn't really make it much past BBB. I guess we left around 4am? I spent the night at Scott and Joanne's. I would have never made it back to Annapolis without falling asleep.

Overall, it was a great time. I had a wonderful well rounded experience. I enjoyed everything the party had to offer. I really wish I could have stayed awake all night. It was fun to watch the sun come up last year. I will never wear shorts to a party at night ever again. I mean, jeans were annoying in the pouring rain, but at least I was warm. Ill be looking forward to next year.
