The Cambie Sucked Us In
Yesterday, Dave and I had full intention of sight seeing. Afterall, we only had two days left up in Vancouver. I was really looking forward to the sun poking through the clouds. Well neither were to be. Because I came home so late, I decided to sleep almost all day. Dave was happy to join me, and we barely made it out of bed for our free breakfest. It was no longer offered after 3pm.
We walked downstairs, grabbed our breakfest cards, and went next door to the bakery. The Cambie offered a $2.50 upgrade to eggs, bacon, bread, and potatos. It was so worth it. We even had some entertainment. If I have not mentioned it, the Cambie is in a nice area of town. If nice was equal to North Philadelphia. Well, it isn't that bad. You have to go a few blocks south for that full on effect, but you can feel the ripples down at the corner of Cordova and Cambie. That being said, some crackhead walked right in the bakery and stole some guys breakfest off his plate. The guy was outside fiddling with a car. The guy came back in, and he asked the crackhead what he was doing. The crackhead said he was taking the leftovers. They guy flipped out, "Thats my breakfest!" He pushed the guy out on to the street and proceeded to kick his butt. It was pretty disturbing/funny. After our ringside breakfest, we went upstairs to grab our cameras and such.
As we walked out the front door and started to turn down Cordova, we heard a voice from the patio. It was Robyn. She was sitting with Christine and her friend (insert guys name i forgot here, sorry). They were soaking up the partial sun on a lazy Saturday afternoon. Of course, we promptly sat down and had a few. It ending up being a great time, and just what I needed after a long night. We asked them if it was a good idea to check out North Van. They said the ferry was kind of a waste so, we just decided to go back to Canada Place. After the city pointers conversation finished, we talked about everything under the sun. I guess it was about five before we called it quites. The plan was to met up later that night in the same place.
By this time, the sun was sort of out from behind the clouds. We were able to get some nice pictures of the city down at Canada Place. We then walked back to the hostel for another nap. Man it was a lazy day. Later that night, I ate in the kitchen. We ended up going downstairs for a few pitchers. Robyn and Christine were suppose to met us, but they did not show. Dave and I decided to walk through the city. We ended up on Granville, and it was so packed. I was glad I did not try to go out on this street. It was full of cheesey clubs, packed bars, long lines, and prolly hefty cover charges. Instead of packing in a dark place with the rest of Vancouver, we went into the Virgin Mega Store to listen to some music. I bought five new albums!
The Best of Cafe del Mar Compiled by Jose Padilla
Involver by Sasha
a grand don'come for free by The Streets
The Outernational Sound by Thievery Corporation
To The 5 Boroughs by Beastie Boys
I am excited about all five and my CDs from Sonar. I have only had a chance to listen to some Beasties and Sasha. The Beasties stuff is so sweet. Its very old school sounding. I especially like "Triple Trouble." Plus, the album cover art is awesome. Again, I listened to some of Involver. Its slow but steady. I only got through the first three tracks. It would be really interesting to hear how the tracks sounded before Sasha remixed each.
After our impluse purchases, we walked back down to Cambie. It was really crowded everywhere in the city. We just decided to have a few at home. Then it was off to read. The day had been full of relaxing times. It was just what the doctor ordered. We had a lot planned for our last day, and the trip had started to wear us thin.
