Where Was Pig?

Tonight, I saw my first DMB show of the summer. Yippie, Merriweather Post Pavilion!!! We spent so much time trying to keep this place open last winter. I was so excited for the show. Even more so after Justin called me last night during Pig. My favorite song. Man, I was hoping they would play it tonight.

I took off early from work. I was planning on meeting Sarah at my Grandma's. She was a bit late because of traffic on the Beltway. No matter, we shot up US-29 with time to spare. She introduced me to a new parking lot. It was only five bucks, and it was easily accessible. Score. We walked down to the main gate.

The entire place was a buzz. The sellout crowd was making their way to the gates. We waited for Denby and Jason to come in from the parking lot. I had their tickets. They walked up shortly, and I introduced them to Sarah. We decided to go inside rather then wait for Kevin and Jen.

The security didn't hassle me about my gear. It was nice to see all the 930 staffers on hand. Yea for IMP running the show. We sat outside the pavillion waiting for Kevin and Jen. While chatting, Bill Laken said hi. I have not seen him in years. I bought my D8 from him. It wasn't long before they arrived. We countinue to chat through the opener. Around 730pm, Sarah and I went inside to grab our seats.

The seats were sweet. Essentially, we sat in the 3rd row. We were somewhat raised off the ground. I thought the seats were better then any in the pit. Plus, I was directly infront of the stage right stack. Nice positioning to tape. I said hi to a few other tapers such as Avi, and we settled in for the show. Here is the setlist.

Grey Street
When The World Ends
Crash
Hello Again
Rhyme & Reason
Hmm?
The Stone
Sugar Will
One Sweet World
Don't Drink the Water
Warehouse
Crazy Easy
I Did It
Where Are You Going?
Joyride
Lie In Our Graves
Too Much

Encore:
What Would You Say?
Pantala Naga Pampa -->
Rapunzel

The Grey Street Opener kicked butt. It floored my levels, but I really enjoyed the energy. It was nice to hear Crash into Me. I hadn't heard it in awhile. I like most of the new songs Hello Again, Hmm?, Sugar Will, Crazy Easy, Joyride. If i remember the order correctly, Hmm? really sounded cool. A nice driving song full of emotion. Good Stuff.

My favorite part of the show had to be the middle. OSW, DDTW, & Warehouse? Come on... OSW was awesome as usual. DDTW ripped, and I danced my face off to Warehouse. I was even able to see Denby dancing 10 rows back!!! LIOG ruled as well. I always enjoy watching Boyd go crazy on his extended solos. The show close with PNP> Rapunzel. Interesting choice, but decent. Overall, I would say not the best, but not the worst. The energy was up there, and it was nice to hear new music. I was only a tiny bit dissappointed they did not play pig. I have only heard it live twice my whole life.

Well, one down 5 to go. That's right - old school Simeon. I am traveling to a bunch of DMB shows this summer. We shall see how they all stack up. I have West Palm Beach in few weeks. Then the Gorge Labor Day weekend. I am hoping they are all as good or better as my first show this summer.
