Hybridized In The Foam?

Yesterday, Cubik threw a Get Lei’d Luau. Hybrid was scheduled for a four hour set! Everyone I have ever talked to raves (maybe a bad choice of words) about their sets. They are known for high energy amazing spectacles of a show. Heidi gave me a few cds, but they were all drum 'n bass. I should have listened to a few people's advice, and downloaded some of their sets from www.hybridized.org. I was too busy downloading Way Out West.

I was also a bit apprehensive about attending because of the foam party. Who wants to jump around in dirty nasty foam up to your face with a bunch of random people? Not me. I was informed earlier in the week, the foam would remain outside on the deck. This was the deciding factor. I drove out to D.C. from Annapolis around 10pm to meet up with Pete, Scott, and Joanne.

For the second week in a row, I found a perfect parking spot on K Street. I found my friends outside the door, and we were inside at the bar in no time. Everyone did some catching up. Pete hadn't been in a few months. These days, it was a rarity for me to be there two weeks in a row.

After taking in the scene in the front room and saying hi to many different people, we walked up to the Rubik room. Implicit & Suneel were up there filling the room with banging house. I really enjoy both of their styles, and they really play great music. We sat around and rested up for the dancing that was going to enevitably occur.

Around midnight, Hybrid began their set. We were all out there jumping around at about 1am. I couldn't believe my legs were still moving!!! I was pretty tired at this point, but I think we could make it. We took breaks from the main floor by walking outside and watching the foam party people get all covered in foam. It was fun to watch, and the weather outside was cool. I also spent some time at the back of the main room sitting and listening. Wow is all I can say. When Hybrid concentrate on progessive, it is truely crazy. I'm glad I decided to make it out last night.

Later on toward the end, I was back in the front room and in walked Justin and Rob. They were dressed for a Luau!!! I mean, they had on grass skirts, straw hats, cocnut bikinis, everything!!! Justin was talking in a fake Jamaican accent, and Rob was carrying around tropical drinks. They looked awesome. I wore a t-shirt with a tiki hut on it, but I couldn't compete. Justin hooked me up with a VIP bracelet, and I was off to check out the scene behind the DJ booth.

It was really packed back there. I had only been back there a few times, but it was never that packed. Justin and Rob hooked Pete, Joanne, and Scott up with bracelets as well. We all found seats and relaxed for the rest of the night. I saw Cliff in the corner, and we talked for most of the time. I was glad to hear he is doing well and has a great new job. Right near 3am, we had the wonderful idea to go back to Cliff's for a bit of an afterparty. I was down.

We left Cubik around 330am and caravan'd it over the Northwest. I was glad Cliff let us follow him because; I would have gotten so lost. Back at his place, we chilled out and listen to music for a few hours. It was a fantastic way to end the evening. I was home and in bed right before sunrise.
