I Love Maryland Because...
It is my home state so, I can gloat a bit, right? Everyone is entitled to giving big ups to their home state even if it is South Dakota. Enough of the non-sense, lets get on to the Saturday that reminded me of the best state ever.
I awoke kinda early for a Saturday. I planned it like that, I wanted to finish moving in the house. My new house in the capital of Maryland, Annapolis. I arranged all my rooms the way they need to be. Then the Premiership was calling. TV was interrupted by errands, but it was reinstated by Ritchie and Jason. Later on, I traveled to Maryland's largest city, Baltimore, for Heidi's birthday celebration. We owned Sonar. The after party saw cheering for Ms. Thomas herself. I topped off the evening by an impromptu journey all the way home. Isn't this the best state ever!!!!
Ok, ya'all are saying, "Simeon, haven't you lived there forever?" Well, yes I have, but my stuff has been everywhere. Today, I took the entire morning to consolidate my stuff into my three rooms. These include my bedroom, the computer room, and the bathroom. I organzied so many things like my books, music, and sports memorabilia. I even hung a German Flag in the computer room!
I felt like I accomplished so much before 1pm, I decided to watch some soccer. My new favorite team, Bolton Wanderers were matched up against Birmingham. They have been tearing up the league, and they now stand in the top four of the Premiership. I love picking a new team. I have not been this into the season since high school. It is such a shame the score ended in a draw.
After running a few errands, I came back to the house. Of course, Jason and Ritchie were already watching American Football. Penn State was the game of choice, and I made some Kandice Creamsicles. I call them this because, my cool little cousin, Kandice, introduced me to the Captain and Sunkist. Creamsicle I tell you!
It was all in jest. Poor, poor Penn State can not pull it together this season. I really enjoy routing along with Jason, but their game is left to be desired. Hopefully, they will pull out a decent season for Mr. Joe Pa.
I would have liked to spend the rest of the evening with these fine people in the Capital, but it was Heidi's birthday! Did I already mention that? Antoher reason to love Maryland. It is a quick ride from Napptown to Bmore. Word. I was up at Pete's in under an hour. The plan was to see Reid Speed at Sonar. Before this went down, we had to pre-party. Yes, yes.
I found myself on the third floor chatting with a crew of people. Lets see if I can get all the names. Heidi (Birthday Day Girl!), Pete, Scott, Joanne, Cliff, Dan, Danny, Aaron, and a few others. Cliff, Scott, and Pete tagged teamed on the decks. It was all we could do to pull ourselves away from the house. Sometime before midnight, we walked out to Broadway for cabs.
Over on Saratoga, Sonar was jumping like normal. I haven't been up in awhile, but it never disappoints. We had planned all week to run some games of pool in the warehouse. I had a pocket full of quarters burning a hole. Cliff and I ran solo for a few games, then Dan and Pete put up an unbelievable fight. Cliff and I were caught with our hands tied. We were put in our place a few games in a row. Oh well, I guess the best have nights off:)
The ass whopping in pool made me long for some dancing. I found my way into the old main room for some DnB. I danced my heart out for Heidi. She was impressed with my enthusiasm for this type of music. Granted, I normally don't get ill to DnB, but it was Heidi's birthday! Can I please stop repeating myself.
After the lights came up, I congregated with our crew outside. I heard earlier in the night that Reid Speed was coming to Pete's for the afterparty. Now, this is entirely possible, but I had my doubts. The last time we tired to bring a DJ back it was Sasha. Huh. Guess that is why we were not successful. Anyway, I some how became the liaison. Reid is from LA. I had to say, "Its not quite the City of Angeles, but Maryland is where its at." We climbed in the car, and some random people followed us. I handled this situation by telling the guy we were going in the opposite direction, and I pretended to take down his number. Soon, we were on our way back to Fells Point. How did I get this duty again? Oh, well, Maryland rules.
Back at Pete's, the third floor was jumping with a bunch of people. A few cats were spinning different types of music, and everyone was sobering up from the night. I sat next to Heidi to give it up one more time for her BDay. I started clapping and yelling Happy Birthday, and everyone in the room joined in the chant. I think we made her blush.
After some fun times, I gave Scott a ride home. I was leaving Baltimore, when a sneaky feeling came over me. I wanted to see my home. No, I am not talking 9 North Homeland Avenue. I was talking the Eastern Shore. Before I realized it, I was crossing the Chesapeake Bay on the Bridge. I was homeward bound.
It was a nice ride all the way back to Grasonville. I remebered why I did not mind every time. Unfortunately, 218 Holly Lane has already changed hands. They built a new house on the plot of land where I learned to walk. Very sad indeed. The only saving grace is this, we (family) still own the land on the water. I drove down to Greenwood Creek, and slowyly got out of the car.
I can't to adequately describe what my eyes saw next. I walked past my Grandmother's house toward the Three Hundred and Fifty Six Feet of waterfront. It was so damn quiet. You could here a pin drop in the grass. I walked toward the dock admiring the glass-like water. I thought to myself, I replaced the entire surface of this dock about six years ago. I was about to reep the benefits of my labor.
Out on the end of the dock. I laid right down on the boards and stared at the sky. I can't believe how beautiful this part of Maryland is. You really have to see it to believe it. All I could see was sky and stars. Sky And Stars! If I rolled to my side, I caught a glimpse of the glass creek. All you could here were crickets saranading the picturesque landscape. I fell back in time to many days of roaming this very area. I use to have so much fun as a child in these open parts. I am so thankful for my parents raising me on the Eastern Shore near amazing water. It is fantastic. I saw two shooting stars!!! I'll need to go back every few months.
I slowly made my way home to find my bed. It was such a fine Saturday. I really did up Maryland like no other. If you have not been, come see what all my fuss is about. I was all over this state today, and it was awesome. I have to say, big ups to Jason, Denby, and Ritchie for hanging out early. Everyone from the nighttime, we got crazy giving it up for Heidi. Again, I have to say Thank You to my parents for the nightcap. I love Maryland because; it is the best.
