You Can Smell The Salt Air

Friday morning, John or Cheif as the affectionately call him, left for work around 7am. I followed him out the door to move my rental car into the parking garage. I was suprisingly wide awake. I guessed it was because of the three hour time change, but I did not get that many hours of sleep. Maybe 6? I think the excitement was taking over my body. I walked back up stairs to met Eric. We decided to grab some showers and do some sight seeing. We walked out the door by 8am. Yay super tourists.

We walked down Wall Street toward the Elliott Bay. Belltown is located right in downtown within walking distance of many sites. We really wanted to see the Pike Place Public Market and the Space Needle. Since it was still hazy, we went toward the Public Market. It is located down on Pike Street, and it is filled with little shops, cafes, food, and flower stands. Plus, Pike street is lined with bars, cafes, and the very first Starbucks! We wanted to watch the fish thrown at the Pike Place Fish Company, but we weren't sure where it was located. Instead of trying to find it, we walked toward Elliott Bay to see what we could see. At Pier 59 was located the Seattle Aquarium. Eric got all giddy. I forgot how much he loved Aquariums. We decided to walk across the Alaskan Highway to see what time it opened.

Unfortunatley, the Aquarium did not open till 930am. We had about 45 minutes to to kill so, we walked north on the Alaskan Highway to find some breakfast. I had already eaten a peach from the Market, but I could go from some coffee. We quickly found a small cafe and Eric ate while I sipped my coffee. It was a really nice morning. The temperature was in the 60s and you could smell the salt air from every direction.

After burning some time, we walked back to the Aquarium. We only had to wait a few minutes to enter. The first exhibit, Life on the Edge, was really cool. You were allowed to touch all the sea life that lives in a tidal pool. I loved the California Sea Cucumbers. The The Myth, Magic & Mystery exhibit was awesome as well. It was full of sea dragons and small to large sea horses. They are such cool animals. Outside, the Marine Mammal exhibit was sweet. We saw sea otters and seals frolicing around in tanks and the land. They are such interesting animals. The whole tour lasted about an hour. We decided to walk back up to the market to find the Fish Market.

It was easy to find after a quick call to John. We watched the guys serve a few customers. They were yelling out the orders to each other in some sort of werid code. It was cool, and they seemed to be enjoying themselves. We ordered a steak of salmon, a steak of halibit, and a steak of swordfish. The plan was to grille up the fish on saturday night.

Once we purchased the fish, we went back to John's to prepare for the rest of the weekend. We would have liked to go to the top of the needle, but it was still cloudy. We needed to head north of the city to a Target and a QFC to gather supplies. Later in the afternoon, we waited for John to get home from work. He called about 3pm to say he wasn't going to make it. We then embarked on the journey to The Gorge.
