Isn't Family Great?
Everyone loves there family, right? Sometimes, it is impossible to understand your parents or deal with a sibling. It can be a chore to help out when that other thing with friends has been planned. All things considered, we still love our families. Next question, do you live near your family? A few people I know took the high dive into the real world. They live in a completely different place then their parents. Then there are people like me. I live fifteen minutes from my parents. I always thought I would go far far away, but that has not been the case. I am here to say, I'm very happy with my decision.
Take for example this past weekend. My dad called asking for some help. He stopped by my house Saturday morning. We drove over to the Eastern Shore to close up the pool, shuffle some cars to the shop, and look for Halloween costumes. We spent most of the day talking about the past few months. Of course, the MLB Playoffs came up as a topic. This lead into an invite on Sunday to watch the game at my house. He does not have cable, and the picture can be quite fuzzy at times.
Sunday, a number of people randomly stopped by the house. The funniest part was each individual walked into the house with some sort of greasy goodness. Finally, Megan stopped by without food. She and I went to Wawa for sandwiches. The afternoon continued with football, beers, and good times. Around dinner, Matt, Megan, and Jen whipped up spicy juicy tacos. So tasty. My Dad stopped by just in time for eats with Tostitos and a case of Sam Adams.
After dinner conversation with Ritchie and Matt, we crowded around the TV for the baseball game. The Redsox were taking on the Cardinals in the Second Game of the World Series. Boston played a convincing game. The won 6-2 over St. Louis. My Dad was the only one to stay till the end!
Today, I had a dentist appointment by my Grandmother's house. The dentist appointment was ok. I just had my teeth cleaned. The best part was stopping by my Grandmother's for dinner. Sunrise, my Mom was already there! They sat me down and played some audio tapes. Who is that small child talking and singing? Well, it was me. Two days ago, my Grandmother found the tapes. What an appetizer for dinner? My mom could not stay, but it was great to see her.
Dinner was unbelievable. It always is from Gran. I was able to request the meal, and I asked for meat-loaf. Wow, it is so good. The tomato sauce really seals it. We also had a zucchini casserole that contained egg, cheese, tomato paste, and other ingredients. It was also very good. For starters, she had a Korean salad with beacon and different sprouts of vegetables. The mean was finished with dark chocolate and white chocolate fudge from a local amish market. Both kinds contained walnuts and fluff. Wow.
I helped her clear the table. She packed all the leftovers, plus more, into plastic. I can never leave her house without food. I tired to help her clean the kitchen, but she didn't want the help. Instead, we sat in the living room. I listened to her tell some stories about the family. We also talked about all my cousins. A few are in college, and some are in the real world. It was nice. I grew very tired and decided to drive home. I would have liked to stay longer.
Almost all of these family encounters in the last week were not pre-planned. I would never have these opportunities if I lived far away from Maryland. I'll have to say, I enjoy living this close. It is great to see my family as often as I do. I still have my space, but they are right here. Of course, I love them very much. Annapolis has been a great decision. Family might be the most important one.
