Napptown Was Jumping
Traditionally, the day before Thanksgiving has been a huge night. Many people travel, and they look for release at the destination. For some, this is travel home. For some, this is travel to see family in a remote location. For me, I didn't go anywhere. My family is here in Annapolis. I didn't even have to go to DC for work! I wasn't sure if I was going downtown. I had been feeling ill since Monday. I convinced myself to head out for some decent food. A cold always needs food so, I decided to venture to Pusser's.
Matt, Megan, and Alexis came by my house after 7pm. Earlier in the evening, Ritchie and I went to Wawa for some food. Matt had originally said dinner was at 9pm. I could not wait. I should have waited. The chicken noodle soup from Wawa tasted like a wet golden retriever. Nasty. I was anxious to get some other type of food.
Upon arrival, we easily sat in the back dinning room. Pusser's was not packed. It looked like a normal night. We ordered a few bowls of crab dip. I didn't get a main dish. As we ate, a few more people filed into the restaurant. They included Kevin and Jen. We relinquished our table, and stood around the bar area.
Derek and Shannon showed up to celebrate her birthday. I haven't seen much of those two since the birth of their first child. I know Megan was really excited to spend time with Shannon. At this point, things started to get crazy. I had noticed more people entering the bar. I went out to the bathroom, and I noticed a line to enter. Is that possible? A line for Pusser's?
Before midnight, every room was full. People would have been outside on the deck if the temperate was not cold. The majority of the crowd was college aged kids. I assume they were home for the Thanksgiving break. I stood in a back corner with Kevin, Jen, and Matt. Matt and I talked a lot about the near future. He is about to purchase a house, and lots of things are rapidly changing. I don't have anything like that in my life, but I can see things on the horizon. It is scary. I'll be twenty-five next spring.
We finished the night with another trip to Wawa. I made sure to go with a sure bet - meatball sub. It was finished up in my basement while watching Taxi Driver. Kevin had never seen this amazing movie. I was astonished. It was a fitting end to a crazy evening. Why? The end of Taxi Driver is crazy and unexpected just like the crowd that was at Pusser's.
