Way Out West

Way Out West performed at Cubik last night. I have been waiting for this show for sometime. I am a huge fan of Jody W and Nick Warren as individual DJs. Together, they can really tear it up. With a new album this fall, Don't Look Now, Omi has joined the group on vocals. Their sound and live show has evolved into more of a band. A backing bassist and drummer stood in last night. Welcome to the future of electronic music.

Now that I live in Annapolis, I normally drive out to DC by myself. I really don't mind because, I know the roads well enough. I met up with Heidi and Pete outside Nation after 10pm. We wanted to show up early in order to secure our reduced admission entrance. We spent a few hours in the front room. I always enjoy Drum 'N Bass more in a live environment then on a CD. One of the DJs played a sick version of INXS' "New Sensation."

Later in the evening, we stopped by the Rubik Room to see Juan of East Coast Boogie Men. You know we need a small dose of House. Luckily, we ran into Cliff and Dan. Congrats to Cliff on a sweet paying gig! Once the main room opened, we stopped by for some Scott Henry. He has been around forever, and who knows how many times we have seen him perform. That being said, he never gets old. I was really enjoyed most of his tracks.

Dan came through with the best idea of the evening. That was to stakeout a spot next to the stage. That area of the room was quite empty because; the DJ both is on the opposite side. We could look under the curtain and see the setup. Just as promised, a normal band setup! Well, almost. The drums and bass were in the back. Upfront were dual electronic setups flanking a single mic. The electronic setups included a iBook G4, processor, keyboards, and mixer (maybe more?).

W.O.W. took the stage just after 130am. Even though we were at the front, no one was pushing to get closer. I was really impressed by this. I don't care what anyone says. The closer you are at a show, the better the show. Every Single Time. It really feels like the group is performing directly for you. Omi was working the crowd fantastically. Nick and Jody couldn't stop dancing. We were right there with them. Dancing. Dancing. We smiled, and they smiled back. Nick gave me a Thumbs Up, and I got to shake Omi's hand. Behind us, the crowd was really jumping. Each new track brought more dancing, clapping, and cheering. My favorite tracks had to be "Killa" and "Anyone But You." Only one compliant, they could have played longer.

Throughout the show, I was snapping photos with my phone. I think a few came out really well considering it is a camera phone. I was lucky to be so close, or I would not have gotten these shots.

WOW Crowd
Cubik crowd for W.O.W.

Another memorable and fun evening at Cubik. We are pretty luck to have a production company and venue in the area that will bring in international talent. I really enjoyed the live show. I think it was the best live electronic music show I have seen. I hope that this model excels in EDM, and other's take note from W.O.W. They had it all last night - good sound, super lights, backing visuals, great stage presence, and awesome music. I can't wait to see Way Out West for a second time.

Another Example Of Corporate America Crap
These photos were taking with a Samsung SCH-a670. My carrier is Verizon Wireless. VZW has a marketing program called "Get It Now" that forces customers to pay to transfer files such as photos, ringtones, and wallpapers from a phone to a PC. I believe this is wrong. Why do you have to pay ever time you want to use a product's feature? Well, this can all be sidestepped. Unfortunately, this process is quite tedious and requires some patience. If anyone would like some help understanding the process, contact me.
