Beach Soccer In Botafogo
Yesterday, I only had four hours of sleep. I was relaxing downstairs in the patio with Steve, Malcom, Kat, and Dan starting around 230pm. The sun was still shining bright, and it looked like everyone was going to the beach. Scott arrived back to the hostel around 3pm and had a fantastic idea. "Lets organize a game of football on the beach." Yes please. We decided to checkout Botafogo beach because; it is within walking distance.
I played on a team with three Brazilians, Mark, and Steve. Our opponents were Dan in goal, Scott, Kevin, Eric, Nick, and Susanne. The Brazilians weren't that good. At one point, I said, "I think our goalkeeper is on drugs." He was acting way to goofy to be normal. The whole game was so much fun. Everyone was impressed with the Americans (Mark and I) play. Its tuff to control the ball on the beach, but it is still lots of fun. We were throughly beaten in the second half after a 3-3 tie at halftime. Dan was amazing in goal, and it was hard to keep the shots down. Later, I knew that I was going to be sore.
Everyone cleaned up after the game, and we went to dinner at Kilograma. During dinner, I began to feel really sick. I don't think it was anything I ate, but a combination of not eating a lot, sun, running, beer, Carnaval 24 Hours a day for 3 days. Anyway, I took an easy for the rest of the evening. I rested while everyone pregamed in the patio. I was out there for part of the time taking pictures. Half of my friends were leaving Rio on Wednesday so, lots of last nights.
Eventually, we all went to Ipanema to find some beach parties. It wasn't really that great, but we met a local that suggested Lapa. It was suppose to be the best for Tuesday night. I wasn't really in a partying mood, but I at least wanted to go out for awhile. We all made it to Lapa, and began to drink Caipirinha's from our favorite stand. Well, they did. I had some coffee. Around 2am, everyone wanted to go to a hip-hop club. They had played Naughty By Nature earlier in the evening. We could hear from the street. I was to tired for that, and caught a cab home with Sunni. I was happy to get a lot of sleep, and I now feel fine. Today, I think I am going to walk around and take pictures. We have planned to see Botafogo play in the Maracana tonight. Its one of the largest football stadiums in the world. The game is part of the Rio de Janeiro tournament - Carioca.
