Getting Cultured
I had an opportunity to break away from the normal weekend fair. Aaron had organized an art show called Word Guitar at the Patterson Theater. This show was to directly benefit Link - a critical journal of the arts in Baltimore. Of course, we could not stray to far from our roots. Pre-Parties, Sonar, and After-Parties also hightlight the evening.
I invited Sarah to come along for the ride. She was looking to leave the DC scene for an evening. We fortunately pulled up to Heidi's new house at the same time! I was so excited to see Heidi's house. I know she was happy to be settled and ready to show off all the hard work. The living room is so coozy with lightened green and orange walls. I could live in her red couch. So Comfortable. She was an exceptional host with sushi, cookies, veggies, and dip. We soon walked to the show only a few blocks from her house.
The idea behind the show was to send out a page from Link to each artist. Then they had free rein to interpret the page as they saw fit. Some of the pieces were pretty far-fetched, but I did enjoy a few. Some artists directly altered their page in a variety of ways. Heidi broke away from the page and manipulated a digital piece. Pete framed his and highlighted one piece of text. One of Sarah's favorites was an empty journal that had text cut from the page to form a Kurt Vonnegut quote from SlaughterHouse Five. I really liked a piece that had the line hightlight, "I am under my covers listening to a transistor radio."
After we had enough culture, the group meandered toward Pete's. We listened to a few records before continuing on to Sonar. It wasn't a super evening at our favorite Bmore club. I had not been since they installed pool tables in the lounge. This was the highlight of my evening. I haven't played pool in months. I was throughly horrible. I was missing shots for my team and making shots for the opposition. The end of the night was spent in the main room with Drum 'N Bass. I really don't like this sound so, I hungout on some couches with Sarah.
We walked halfway back to Fells before finding a cab that would fit seven happy people. I was shoved into the laps of Scott, Heidi, and Sarah. Good Times. The afterparty at Pete's lasted until almost 4am. It was fun to hear some new records and dance in his lounge. Overall, it was an enjoyable evening. I do miss spending so much time in Baltimore. I do have to say, they have it pretty good up in that city.

ahh...vonnegut...i remember purchasing slaughterhouse five in a used bookstore in paris the day you guys went to normandy...i read it in luxembourg park and then it was passed around until i think all of us had read it by trips-end...it's a wonder we didn't stop in dresden but so it goes...though I guess we were more worried about getting wasted in prague (no regrets)...anyway...that's cool that someone incorporated vonnegut into their piece...remember what the quote was? btw...please remember appropriate footwear this weekend...i do not want to stop off at k-mart before nyc again...
