Rusted Root Day #3

Friday was designated Rusted Root Day #3. Over the past few years, Herzceg and I have seen Rusted Root at the Electric Factory in Philadelphia. Each time, we have tried to semi-replicate the first Rusted Root day back in 2002 -- An entire day dedicated to the band by skipping school. Of course, this is hard to replicate when we don't do school no more. We can still try.

I drove up to Philadelphia from Annapolis. The traffic was, eh. I was in Manyunk in time to hit up the Bayou for a few drinks. Herczeg really tried to talk me into Bonnaroo. I wish the man wasn't raping me for taxes. Enough of the future, lets down to the EFactory.

It was crazy to see a makeshift and rather small Shakedown Street setup in the EFactory parking lot. These crazy hippies. Getting inside was so simple with my taping gear. Sometimes, they can be a pain at that place. Dave showed up a second after me, and we spoke with a camera guy to find a good place to setup the rigs. The camera guy was working for INHD. It will be cool to see the show when it is released. We were way off to the left, and I think the tape is OK. Lets get to the setlist...

Voodoo
Cat Turned Blue
Laugh as the Sun
Artificial Winter
Heaven
Food and Creative Love
Lost in a Crowd
Welcome to my Party
Martyr
Too Much
Blue Diamonds
Weave
Rain
Back to the Earth
Drum Trip
Send Me on My Way

Encore:
Scattered
Women Got My Money
Hands are Law
Cruel Sun
Ecstacy

Excellent and long for Rusted Root. Jenn and Liz played a small set to open as did Michael. Jenn is also pregnant! My mom was teaching high school when she was pregnant with me not on tour. Crazy. I was very happy with the set. I heard everything I wanted to hear. Our spot for taping ended up being a prime walkway so, the dancing was limited. Toward the end of the show, space cleared. I really enjoyed "Food and Creative Love" and "Martyr." The run of "Rain," "Back to the Earth," "Drum Trip," and "Send Me on My Way" was sweet but no transitions. The encore left you wanting more. It was a great show. Only compliant? I really really could have heard Drum Trip into Ecstacy. All in all, it was a good Rusted Root Day. You gotta love this band.

After making our way back through Shakedown Street, Herczeg and I drove back to the Flat Rock in Manayunk. Terry was already there, and Ben was getting a ride from Dave. We had a few Hoegaardens and listened to a solo act. He laid down Ramblin Man. Ah, how profectic. We were off to NYC for the Allman Brothers Band at the Beacon Theatre in less then twelve hours. It was going to be an early night for the big day ahead...
