Meeting The Family

Is it hard to meet a significant other's family? I'd say there is some sort of pressure there. Take away this situation and it is human nature. Don't you want to make a good impression. Hmm, maybe that isn't true. I act completely strange, weird, and outlandish in front of new people. This is part of my personality. I can tone down the martian tendencies when need be. That is not as much fun, but a necessary evil at some junctures.

Over the past few weeks, Teresa has met my immediate family. I say, this is a good thing. She's an amazing part of my life so, I'd like to share that with those who love me unconditionally. I knew each situation would turn out positive. She's an easy going likable girl. I don't think I could spend so much time with any other personality. If she can stand my quirks, I am sure the root (family) would be bearable.

The first taste of family came at a horse farm. Fitting it was, since all the girls love horses. The farm is where Jocelyn now keeps her horse. Our family goat, Smokey, also now lives at this farm. We had to disperse the vast animal collection upon losing our mini-farm. He is the reason for this encounter. Teresa was dying to meet Smokey. I sent her a photo of African Pygmy Goats, and she fell in love. Emily and Jocelyn met the two of us at the farm. The girls showed Teresa Smokey and the other goats. There such goofy animals climbing all over each other. Smokey was gigantic. His ten stomachs were overflowing like a woman about to have quintuplets. The fat farm animal aside, the girls all got along great.

Last Saturday, we had a chance meeting with my Dad and Chelsea. On the way back to Teresa's for dinner, my Dad called. He had a surprise dessert to give me. We decided to invite him over for some dinner. Then we could eat the mystery dessert. He had to pick up Chelsea, and she became an invited guest as well. Teresa and I furiously prepared salad, pasta, and bread. Her apartment can get quite hot especially with water boiling. Luckily, everything was ready upon Dad and Chelsea's arrival. My Dad handed me a hot peach pie. The peaches were picked earlier that day and the heat was from the oven. To top it off, my Dad makes the best pies. I couldn't wait to eat. How'd he know Teresa loves peaches? We ate and held discussion on music, their recent trip to the beach, school, animals. Before I knew it, 3 hours had passed. It was a great way to spend a Saturday night. Both Dad and Chelsea enjoyed her company.

Just yesterday, We had a chance to stop by my Mom's house for dinner. Everyone was there but Emily. My mom prepared a wonderful non-meat meal since, Teresa stays away from sides of beef. We were a little late, but thats how we tend to operate. It was no big deal. After hearing high praises from everyone, my Mom was happy to finally met her. Before dinner, we introduced Teresa to the dogs, Spot and Calli. Spot is a deaf dumb Dalmatian, but his an amiable overweight puppy. She like his goofy fat self from the beginning. She couldn't get over Calli's choppy haircut and strange body. Chelsea randomly cut the dogs hair because of the heat. Calli's shape is undesirable. She is entirely too long for her own good and contorts herself into positions that resembles a cat.

During dinner, we talked about Teresa's interests. My mom mostly asked questions, and they compared interests. They have so much in common, I knew they would enjoy each other's company. We also listen to Jocelyn talk about school in the fall. She is leaving for her sophomore year of college next week. It is a big deal because; she spent her freshman year at community college. We also talked a bit about travel and music. My mom was interested in the DMB run at Red Rocks this fall. She also thought it was awesome Teresa likes the Allman Brothers. It was a great dinner topped off by some chocolate covered pretzels courtesy of Jocelyn.

After dinner, we took a short walk down the road to see some kittens. Teresa loves cats, and a friend of the family currently has a few litters. One set is of six week old kitties. The other set is only a few days old. They need to get the females fixed because; a stray male has been busy. The youngest group of kittens were too old to hold, but the six week old kittens were active with all different personalities. I really liked an orange one that was quite calm and docile. Teresa really liked a black and white kitty that looked the opposite of Spooks. Its so hard to see baby animals without taking one home.

We didn't spend a long time looking at the cats for the aforementioned attachment that builds. Back at my Mom's house, we said our goodbyes. My mom wanted us to stay to play cards, but it was getting late. We'll be back again for one of their beloved card playing sessions. It was a good night enjoyed by all. I know my Mom now adores Teresa. I knew she'd make a good impression on the family. She's good people, and its not hard for her to be cool. I knew it would be this way. Now, I have to look forward to the reverse this fall - meeting her family up in Boston.
