Persuaded Yet Again
The weekend lazily passed. Friday was consumed with a movie called Outside Providence. Its decent. The best part is when a kid named Drugs succumbs to his partying lifestyle. His friends sacrifice a vinyl version of Eat A Peach, pack of EZ-Wires, and some whisky. Wrapped around this event is a good story about a boy who does wrong, but he makes it right. Its all set at a preppy New England boarding school. Ok, the weekend is still passing by... It rained all Saturday. I was hoping for some good weather. I learned that pick up soccer games take place at Riverside Park in Federal Hill. This is only a few short blocks from my door. Here is hoping for sunny weather this Saturday. Into the evening hours, Teresa and I had some dinner. It didn't seem like anyone was venturing to a bar. In this situation, its funny how 4708 Fowler Street always calls.
Apparently, Courtney's birthday celebrations had been planned. The night was shaping up. Now that I call Baltimore home, Philadelphia is just over an hour and a half drive. It just keeps getting shorter. I sad my good bye's to Teresa and shot up I-95.
I arrived in Manyunk around 930pm. Everyone was in the kitchen. How come parties always get down in the kitchen? I sad hello to all and wished Courtney a Happy Birthday. I grabbed a PBR out of the crisper and caught up with Jeff, Mark, and Rob. Problem Solving had a gig the night before. It was at Abilene's, but it wasn't as fun as the last gig. I keep saying, when are they booking a Maryland show? We played a quick game of foosball (im getting better), and Herczeg and I actually won! The mighty JGood was dethroned from his foosball reign.
Socialites that we are, we could have played foosball all night. Courtney had different plans. She decided Brownies of 38th Street would be a good place for a birthday party. We tried to catch a 1001pm train out of Manyunk, but it never came. We stood out on the platform past 11pm. It even rained a few times. Sounds horrible right? We persevered with bags of refreshments. When SEPTA finally showed, the conductor let us ride to 30th street for free. We made it out of 30th Street and grabbed some cabs for the 8 block trip toward the bar.
I wasn't sure what to expect with Brownies. I had been to 23 East off the Mainline. I wasn't ready for the Jersey Shore. That is the best way to describe the bar. It is a huge rectangle with a bar in the center. Along the left wall, pool tables are lined up for play. The beer of choice is Miller Lite. The band on stage was called Split Decision. The place was filled with college kids and twenty-somethings. I ended up playing pool with some Drexel exchange students.
Terry was out for the night, and he gave us a ride back to Manyunk. I was greatful for not waiting on a cab ride. We tried to watch the Big Lebowski, but it was too long for that late in the eveninig. All and all, it was a good night. I hope Courtney had a wonderful Birthday. I was glad to be persuaded to drop by Philadelphia for the event. On Sunday morning, I had an easy ride back home. It so close. Y'all should come visit Baltimore.
