A Wet And Rainy Evening
Saturday, the wet weather continued. I really can't complain. Spring is about revivial. You can't have revivial without rain. I can complain about the consequences of rain. I felt these consequences while traveling to Philadelphia. I was set for a Saturday night outside of Baltimore.
I started the short drive in the late afternoon. I have been able to make the trip in about one and a half hours. It's nice to see this trip whittled from two and half hours when I lived on the Eastern Shore. This Saturday, I was expecting even worse. People can't drive in the rain. I am all for being cautious but driving 40 miles an hour on I-95 is too much. The first direct consequence of rain, it took over three hours to drive to Manayunk.
I can say, I arrived at a good time. Herczeg was at the house, and it was time for the Arsenal / Tottenham replay. The game originally aired at 730am. I didn't get up. It was an awesome awesome game. It was the last North London Derby at Highbury. Plus, both teams are fighting for a Champions League spot. We were routing for Arsenal. Strangely enough, Thierry Henry did not start the game. This proved to be an unwise decision. I guess, he was being rested for this week's Champions League game? Tottenham scored first, but the game wasn't decisively controlled by one team. Henry entered for the last fifteen minutes and made an immediate impact. He scored the equalizer with an outside of the foot tap. It was a great goal. It was a shame the game ended in a 1-1 tie.
We wanted to see Soulive and Toots and the Maytals. It seemed to dark and stormy to risk driving all the way into the city. We decided to watch the Flyers playoff game. They were already in overtime with the Buffalo Sabres. We didn't want to stay in the house all night so, we took the short trip to the Bayou. The place was packed, and everyone was watching the game. Overtime hockey is one of the most exciting scenarios in sports. Too everyone's suprise, we saw one of the greatest hits of the past few years. The bar was very quite and hoping for Umberger's safety. The hit was insane. Umberger was able to skate away, but he was banged up. Unfortunately, we didn't see the Flyers win. Buffalo took the first game in the second overtime.
The Bayou is good, but The FlatRock is great. We wondered into our favorite Manayunk bar to the fimiliar crowd. People were sitting, standing, and all foot stomping to the good music. I only know 'the fat guy' who plays the guitar. The guy playing last Saturday was skinny, but just as good. We got plenty of classics. Besides the good music, I was able to hangout with Jeff, McCartan, Alex, Lugi, and Herb. This is why, I like to make regular trips to Philadelphia. This bar is awesome, and I don't get to see these awesome people down in Baltimore. Everyone seems to be doing well. I need to have some visitors to my new Neighborhood. Before we went home, I was even dancing in between the tables.
Even though the rain was persistent, the night was bright. We were inhibited from seeing a show, but the music at the FlatRock never disappoints. I would have never caught those games at the Electric Factory. I think most importantly, I stumbled into all my friend's paths. Again, people need to come to visit. Rain can't keep you from too many good experiences.
