Yo Quiero Cerveza

My limited spanish knowledge was utilized on Friday - Cinco de Mayo. According to that history lesson, a case can be made for American's to celebrate this holiday. That is good enough for me. The weather was perfect. It was a Friday afternoon. That is enough to get me out.

Teresa had been feeling ill all week. I was excited to arrive home and hear she was well enough to venture out. The immediate plan was walk around Federal Hill and checkout the parties. Most of our street was already up on the deck. We weren't sure where the night would take us. Many of the fine establishments had special parties for Cinco de Mayo. Troy was suppose to be bartending at Blue Agave, but they had to cancel their outdoor party. Lime had a block roped off for their 1st annual party. Before making a decision, Teresa and I walked to Anna's house.

Anna had a friend from North Carolina visiting named Mike. She suggested we drive to Nick's Fish House to meet some friend's from work. I was cool with this idea. Nick's is suppose to be an excellent place. It is over by the Hanover Street Bridge. I immediately loved the resturant. It is situated right on the water with open air deck and bar. It reminded me of a place in Annapolis or the Kent Narrows. We only had a few drinks but vowed to return for a full dinner.

We traveled back to Clement and met up with everyone at Ryan and Jame's. We still didn't have a sure plan, but I love random evenings. After mingling in the sunset, we walked down to the center of Federal Hill. Our first stop was Mad River Bar and Grille. I've never really enjoyed this place. It's decent, but not my scene. It's normally really crowded. On this occasion, we had lots of room to move, but the music was so loud. I felt like I was at a Slayer concert. Our next stop was Blue Agave. We figured, a tequileria was a good idea for Cinco de Mayo. I think someone said, "how could we downgrade from Mad River?" It was not packed, but it was hard to get a drink. We then trekked over to Nevin's on Cross Street. Finally, a spot to enjoy the evening. It wasn't crowded, the beer was cheap, and Anna was singing karoke!

Unfortunately, I couldn't spend the entire night at Nevin's. Avi, Becca, Nate, and his girlfriend were traveling into Baltimore. They wanted to try No Way Jose Cafe. While Nate checked out the bar, I helped Avi park. Nate reported back that No Way Jose was way to full. I suggested Porter's up the street. Its always a shoe-in for a good time, and we had an entire booth to ourselves. It was great to catch up with Nate, Avi, and Becca. I really like Nate's new girlfriend. She is personable and cool. There wasn't much Mexican flare, but we celebrated Cinco de Mayo almost until close.

I walked the group back to their car and gave directions back to 95. It was really cool for them to stop by Baltimore! I hope everyone will be able to visit Federal Hill sooner than later. Of course, the local crew is always a good time. It has been so much fun meeting people in the neighborhood and enjoying everything that is at our fingertips. The Cinco de Mayo celebration was great, but we only enhanced the normal Friday fun.
