Goodbye NE, Hello NW
I moved! This time, the trip was about 10 miles instead of 3000 miles. It was time to try a new part of Portland. Teresa and I decided upon the Northwest. Our new neighborhood is called Nob Hill. The Northeast had some decent qualities, but I am excited for a new experiences. Nob Hill is a vibrant area with tons of restaurants, shops, markets and entertainment options. Back over the Northeast, we'd have to walk at least a mile to anything. Over here in Nob Hill, everything is at our doorstep.
Even though we just drove across town; moving is never easy. Granted, we are becoming experienced movers. This time, we hired a moving company to help carry the larger stuff. We packed up our truck in five hours, and they unloaded it in two hours. That rocked, and its totally worth the expense. I continued to purge, and I sold a few things on ebay and Craigslist. Over the next couple of weeks, I am going to continue with my purging. I want to get rid of anything I haven't recently used. Its ridiculous to carry this stuff from place to place.
I am very excited with the new neighborhood. It makes me totally happy to have the opportunity to walk to anything we need. We can even walk to Trader Joe's or Zupan's for groceries! Also, I am really looking forward to a few Timber's games which are within walking distance. If we want to checkout other neighborhoods in the NW or SW, the Streetcar is only a block from our new spot. I couldn't be happier with our new location. I hope this Hill is good to us like the last Hill (Yay Bmore, Hon!)
We've already taken advantage of some walkable restaurants. Last Friday, we walked to Laurelwood NW Public House for late night happy hour. The Workhorse IPA is awesome. If I want, I can take my growler over to bring beer home. Perfect. Just last night, we had dinner at Mu Mu's. We shared two excellent sandwiches -- one Shroomwich and one Brutuswich. The Shroomwich is comprised of Portobello mushrooms while the Brutuswich has grilled chicken, fries and caesar dressing. I can't wait to continue the tour of bars and restaurants.
If the Northeast taught me anything, I know what type of neighborhood I really enjoy. I feel most at home in a neighborhood centered around walking that is abuzz with activity. It is wonderful to step outside into the middle of it all. I don't want a yard to tend; I'm happy with my sidewalks and city parks. That being said, to each their own is always a good philosophy. We shall see how long I stay in the Northwest. So far, I am happy with the new neighborhood.
