Going To Beer Halls Makes The Sun Appear
For all I know, this could be true. On Saturday night, Teresa and I decided to skip eating dinner at the apartment; I suggested Lucky Labrador Beer Hall here in the Northwest. It only recently opened this year. It is suppose to be a decent extension of the Lucky Labrador Brew Pub in the inner Southeast.
The Lucky Labrador Beer Hall is situated in a less traveled area of the Northwest. Its over by NW Quimby & NW 19th. Maybe that is an unfair statement, but I don’t pass through that neighborhood very much. The walk over was fine, but Teresa stopped to give a stray cat some loving. The cat’s caretaker tried to convince us to adopt, but we can’t take in anymore animals at this time.
It was easy to find the place. From the outside, you can see their large outdoor patio. If summer ever shows up, it will be fun. The inside of the Beer Hall is similar to the Southeast establishment. Its decorated with dog art. Its extremely open and large. Seating is long wooden picnic tables with a few rounded tables. Patrons order drink and food from a counter that separates the hall from the open kitchen. Basically, its a traditional Beer Hall converted from a old warehouse. I like it.
For dinner, we decided upon “The Greek” pizza topped with Sun-dried Tomato, Roasted Garlic, Red Onion, Kalamata Olive and Feta Cheese. For the first round, Teresa ordered a Dog Day IPA. I had an ESB on nitro. For seating, we found an open rounded table near the dart boards.
A few notes on the atmosphere; we were the only people there without children. Granted, the place was pretty much empty. It can probably hold close to 80 or 100 people. Including Teresa and myself, there was about 10 adults and 10 children. Because of the size of the room, no one cared that the children ran free. The music playing was excellent. It was a mix that included classic rock, funk and a bit of 90s alternative (Pearl Jam). I was pleasantly surprised. It might have been one of the better mixes I’ve heard in Portland.
Our pizza arrived quickly. It was large and good. The crust was heavy and crispy. It was covered in cheese and toppings. Garlic was the most prominent ingredient. The pizza was so grand, I could only have two slices. In order to wash it down, I had to order another drink. I decided to pick a seasonal brew, the Malt Bomb Bavarian Lager. This beer is sensational! Until I tried to Google its name, I had no idea it was just introduced. As I enjoyed this beverage, the sun began to shine over the Westhills. No Joke. The top-third of the Beer Hall's west wall a large window. The clouds were breaking just in time for sunset. It was a happy moment to be drenched in sunshine and drinking a tasty beer. It almost felt like summer!
Teresa and I stayed for a few more rounds. We ordered singles of the Malt Bomb Bavarian Lager and shared. Besides the absence of people, we had a great time listening to music and enjoying this awesome Lager. I’d like to go back to fill up a growler.
We didn’t stay too long, so we could walk home in the twilight. Teresa stopped to pet another cat. This one looked like someone’s pet, but she is always trying to adopt more animals. He was a clean, but looked like a Brutus. He only had half a tail!
My first visit to the Lucky Lab Beer Hall was a good one. I imagine, it could only get better. I want to return for the outdoor experience. Hopefully, they’ll still be brewing the Malt Bomb Bavarian Lager.
