You Think I'm From California? Fine. I'll Move There.
This whole Portland idea isn’t working out as planned. I’m saddened for this fact. I’ve proclaimed the glories of the Pacific Northwest for years. Well, hold on a second, Portland isn’t all of Oregon, Washington and British Columbia. I’m getting off track—it is time to move. Again. Just a short 8 months since trekking across the country I’m headed 900 miles south. After this year, I should get a CDL license. Teresa and I are moving to Long Beach, California. Lets break down the facts:
- We didn’t like the rain; Its worse then we imagined
- Most people were less than inviting; Their either too awesome or passive aggressive
- Teresa couldn’t find decent work; There is a surplus of teachers
It doesn’t need justifying. We plain weren’t happy. Life isn’t always as you planned. I am eternally grateful that we could move on without many issues. For many Oregon is the promised land. It wasn’t for us. To me, its like a relationship that is completely unhealthy. You have the best Saturday night out but fight for the next six days. Its gorgeous in Oregon, and I loved the beautiful outdoors. I just couldn’t take all the downsides between hikes and trips to the coast. We’d enter a bar, and everyone would label us Californians. In Oregon, this label might as well be akin to the devil. I have to thank those close minded people; you made me a Californian. I am happy for it.

I like this post. Too bad things didn't work out in Portland. Glad I got to visit you out there though it did seem like an odd place. Also, don't fret too much about those who are too cool. In a few years Portland will be "over" and people will look for a new promised land...maybe Omaha.
