Mustaches For Kids, What Is It?

You might have been wondering, why all the ugly pictures of myself? Honestly, I was wondering as well. Its not easy being creative everyday of the week; trying to take a good picture. Anyway, I joined this year’s Mustaches for Kids Challenge. Its an annual charity event held throughout the country. “Growers” attempt to grow a mustache from November 13th until December 13th. My sweet facial hair is suppose to raise money for local schools. The donation portion of the challenge is handled by Donors Choose. It allows teachers to create projects. A project might be a piece of equipment or maybe an educational trip. The local Long Beach chapter was organized by my friends Tina and Jessica. Every Thursday night, we’d meet at Murphy’s for a mustache update.
The entire experience was fun. I hadn’t ever grown a mustache. I’ve tried a goatee, but that wasn’t very successful. The mustache was very successful, but it wasn’t pretty. Teresa wouldn’t let me near small children; she said I looked like a very bad man. It wasn’t entirely comfortable. I’m not up on the latest grooming techniques. I guess the worst part was scratching Teresa’s face. I’d have to be careful when giving her a kiss.
Enough of the downfalls, I’m glad I participated. I raised some money for teachers in need, albeit a little amount. If you're feeling the Christmas spirit, you can still give. I really enjoyed meeting up at Murphy’s. I had an awesome time hanging out with Tina and Jessica while meeting some new friends. I have to say thanks to them because I won the contest! At the end of the month, I was judged to have the best mustache of our group. I won a razor and a really nice bottle of wine (directly imported from Italy by Jessica herself).
I don’t think I’ll participate next year; mainly because I alienated myself from Teresa. Who doesn’t like to get touch? However, I’ll still do my part by sponsoring those that grow for the Long Beach chapter.
